Tom Johnson’s Rare Single Horse Grain Drills
Tom Johnson of Oskaloosa, IA is the proud owner of two turn of the century brands of single horse grain drills. His great grandfather brought his Kentucky Grain Drill from North Carolina to Illinois and later to Iowa. It had stayed in the shed for years, and as Tom began to investigate it he discovered it was purchased in approximately 1904. He later acquired a Hoosier Grain Drill which has a patent date of April 1876. Tom describes some of the drill's features in the interview. Both companies were acquired by the International Harvester Company in 1919 or 1920.
This interview was conducted at the 28th National Red Power Round Up in Des Moines, Iowa in June 2017.
